Spain's King Felipe VI visits Mestalla

The Spanish monarch congratulated the club on their Centenary and Copa del Rey win

Valencia CF received an historic visit from Spain's King Filipe VI on Monday, where he was welcomed by the squad, staff and representatives of the club. It was the first time that the Spanish monrach had visited Mestalla, where the recently-won Copa del Rey was on display on the pitch in honour of his arrival.

VCF president, Anil Murthy, greeted The King upon his arrival at the stadium, before introducing him to the members of the first team and the coaching staff. His Majesty congratulated them on the club's Centenary and for the cup triumph, for which he was present in Seville on May 25th.

Captain Dani Parejo presented King Felipe with a Valencia CF shirt with the number 100 on the back, whilst the president handed over a silver model of Mestalla as a unique souvenir, plus VCF shirts with the names of his daughters: Leonor, Princess of Asturias, and Infanta Sofía of Spain.

"I think that it's a perfect way to cap our Centenary, having Spain's highest authority here, visiting our players, our staff and our ground -a place which belongs to every Valencianista," said Anil Murthy.

"I think that this year we've shown that this club have big ambitions. We've experienced a lot this year, including the King's visit today, and we are showing that this club have great aspirations and will grow."
